Woman Grows 6 Foot Tall Zucchini
Who says that you don’t have the ability to successfully grow your own vegetables? Not everyone has the talent - but all you really need is the patience. A woman from Queens is used to growing her own fruits and vegetables - but was tired of growing the same old things. Instead she chose to broaden her horizons and managed to grow a 6 foot long zucchini in her backyard.
Apollonia Castitlione grew the Long Italian zucchini during the summer and used the basic things; fertilizer, water, and of course the necessary TLC. “I’ve had my vegetable garden for 26 years, but I never saw anything so spectacular,” said Castitlione, who’s 5 feet tall. “I didn’t put Miracle Grow on it, nothing, just a little bit of 5-10-5 fertilizer, water and my time.”
She noticed that the zucchini growing longer then it should have last month and growing fast. She left it to grow while she went on vacation to Boston for the weekend. She she came back it had grown 1.5”.
At last count, the zucchini was just over 6 feet - nearly 2 feet shy of the world-record 7-foot, 10-inch zucchini grown in India three years ago. “There’s no secret, I guess it was just luck,” said Castitlione, who lives in Glendale, Queens.
