There are many plants that we try to keep our children from coming into contact with because it can hurt them. One of the more common and more annoying of these plants is poison ivy. The best thing to do to prevent them from going near it is teach them the old adage, “Leaves of three let them be…”.
However, sometimes our children will not remember this and may accidentally brush up against it or play with it. When this happens we need to know exactly what to do to make the itching, burning rash from bothering them. If not treated properly th poison ivy rash can last for up to two weeks.
The best thing you can use is calamine lotion. This is relatively inexpensive and is great at relieving the itch. Place it over the itch and let it sit for awhile. Apply more when necessary.
A hot bath will help to dry out the rash – which will in turn help to progress the healing process. Another way of drying it out is to use a home remedy that not many people are aware of. The ingredients that you will need is warm water and baking soda. Mix the two together to form a thick paste. Rub the paste over the rash and let it do its thing. It will also help to relieve the itch.
