Annual Plants
An annual plant is one that completes its whole life cycle in one complete year. In short this means that its growth cycle consists of going from seed to seed before it dies off all in one growing season.
Annual plants have this type of growing season in order to produce and propagate. You will find that removing the flowers before the seeds have fully matured will help to create more flowers and more seeds.
Some people in colder climates will try to grow perennials as annuals. The only way that this is possible it must first flower profusely in the first year of it growth. There are also plants considered to be hardy annuals. This just means that they are able to withstand a little frost without being killed off and will continue to bloom and set seed into the next year, but they will eventually expire.
Annuals can be further divided into cool season and warm season. Pansies will fade as the summer heats up. Zinnias won’t even get moving until the nights stay warm. Annual flowers give you the opportunity to have a totally different garden every year.
